Due to the confidential nature of its research, NCR Knowledge Lab
wanted to present their work to visitors in an engaging but
controlled method, whilst also reinforcing their credentials as
an innovative and user-centred design focused organisation.
Creating a spin on the traditional ‘corporate fishtank’, the solution
is a playful installation using live goldfish in an aquarium to control
the display of a database containing the Lab’s research areas,
projects, and personnel.
A video camera and a sophisticated computer program track the
random movements of the fish, using the changing positions to
map related graphics on a large plasma display above the tank.
Visitors place hanging "keys" into four tank "portholes" to reveal
the nature of the research conducted by the Lab.
The result is informative and compelling, and helps
reinforce opinions about the Lab’s work as a creative and
humanistic contribution to NCR as much as a technological one. |
