Digital Radio Broadcasting began in 1995. The BBC needed
to create a new visual icon, something that would fire-up
the imaginations of consumer electronics manufacturers and
content providers alike. The purpose of this project was to
create a new vision for radio, showing how digital technology
could offer new functionality, services and experiences
for consumers through a range of different radios.
Brainstorming generated design ideas that were built into
user scenarios to explore the appearance and operation of
the radios as well as uncover possibilities for new services.
Displays on the radios show pictorial information to complement
the audio program, such as musician portraits, sports factoids,
programme guides or recording set-up information.
Concepts ranged from home radios that can be instantly
personalised by family members to personal portable radios
and radios for the shower. |
